Can I Purchase a Chipotle Franchise?

This question comes up a lot. In fact, there are approximately 3 million searches per month according to Semrush analytic tools. Presumably so many people search for franchise opportunities because Chipotle is an established brand with an impressive footprint.

There were over 3,000 Chipotle locations opened at the end of 2022.

Franchising provides an opportunity for entrepreneurs to follow proven systems and process while offering sought after menu items. Naturally, the people want a Chipotle franchise!

Unfortunately, Chipotle doesn’t currently offer any franchise opportunity.

Chipotle used to offer franchises.  However, they stopped offering franchises around 2005 and converted franchised outlets to company outlets around 2006. This means, you cannot purchase a Chipotle franchise location unless Chipotle changes course.

There are may sites claiming they know the Chipotle franchise requirements. They don’t.  The last franchise disclosure document was issued in 2004. Paying for the document wont get you any closer to purchasing a franchise – because the FDD expired back in 2005.

Will Chipotle Offer Franchises in the Future?

Maybe. In 2018, the CEO created a buzz when he suggested the company may begin to offer franchises. However, if Covid-19 didn’t push Chipotle into offering franchises – it might not be in the cards.

Alternative Franchise Opportunities

Here are a few companies that do offer franchises and publish their franchise requirements:

  1. Moes Southwest Grill Franchise
  2. Qdoba
  3. Taco Bell
  4. Del Taco
